Abstract: | In Dynamic Broadcast, the broadband connection and the storage device available to the user terminals are utilized and the broadcast network and the broadband network collaborate to achieve a higher efficiency in the delivery of TV content. Dynamic Broadcast introduces diverse flexibilities into the delivery of TV content as described above. To realize these flexibilities, a playout system which manages the content multiplexing, the signalling, the processing of data about media consumption, the scheduling of content delivery and the configuring of the entire broadcast network dynamically is indispensable.
In this dissertation, after introducing Dynamic Broadcast, the use cases of the playout system for Dynamic Broadcast are identified and related requirements are derived. To determine which content unit should be transmitted at what time in which network using what parameters, a heuristic approach based on the particle swarm optimization is developed and evaluated through simulations. The control of the content delivery in Dynamic Broadcast is realized by extending the Broadcast eXchange Format (BXF) for the description of the delivery schedule. To ensure that the new features of Dynamic Broadcast do not alter the conventional TV viewing experience, a flexible signalling framework for the content delivery in Dynamic Broadcast is proposed. At last, a service-oriented-architecture for the overall dynamic playout system is presented. |
