Abstract:The dissertation deals with the comparative classification of Ge’ez verbs in the traditional schools of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. The traditional schools selected are Wašära, Wadla and Gonğ, in which traditional disciplines are taught to church students. Among these the classification of Ge’ez verbs in the subject of Qəne takes the first place. The classification of Ge’ez verbs differs in the way scholars of the individual schools categorize verbs into main verb types and sub type verbs and in their defining of both main and sub types. In addition this dissertation considers classifications by foreign and modern scholars of Semitic linguistics and philology. Data of the study were collected using interviews and valuable documents from archives or manuscripts from the church monasteries.
