Etwa 400 vollständige mitochondriale Genome aus den Datenbanken des National Center for Biotechnology Information NCBI werden mit der Quadrupelmethode und verschiedenen Auswertungsverfahren untersucht. Dafür wurden unterschiedliche Arten aus den bekanntesten Taxa des Tierreichs mehr oder weniger willkürlich ausgewählt.
Das Ziel dieser und ähnlicher Untersuchungen ist eine sinnvolle Taxonomie sowie "richtige" Phylogenese und letztendlich das "Verstehen" der Evolution.
Die Ergebnisse werden weitestgehend in leicht verständlichen Tabellen dargestellt.
