Purnima Sinha’s research work on classification of clays under the supervision of S.N. Bose of Bose-Einstein Statistics fame gave her the distinction of becoming the first woman physicist receiving Ph.D. degree from Calcutta University in 1956.

She continued research with clays and ceramics as a scientist but was also involved in other creative pursuits like craft, music, painting, writing etc. The focus of the book is on the scientific contributions of Purnima Sinha but it also highlights her talents in other areas as mentioned above and positions her as an independent thinker.
