C.V. Raman and the Press: Science Reporting and Image Building
Part II: The Indian Institute of Science Period
C.V. Raman, the founder of Raman Spectroscopy, received the Physics Nobel Prize in 1930. To this day, he remains India’s only Nobel Laureate in the field of science. A number of biographies deal with various aspects of his life and science. However, his interaction with the local and international media remained unexplored. In “C.V. Raman and the Press: Science Reporting and Image Building - Part 1: Kolkata Period” his interaction with media until 1932 was explored.
Raman was appointed as the first Indian director of the IIS, Bangalore. He established the Department of Physics and the Indian Academy of Sciences. Due to social, political, and personal reasons, he came in conflict with bureaucrats, colleagues, and a group of scientists from Kolkata. The present book deals with Raman’s interaction with media during his tenure at the IIS, Bangalore (1933-1948).
