Our program includes over 29,000 publications, both books and electronic publications. We view our website as a publication platform for academic media, textbooks, and publication series.
Our goal is to enable simple and flexible scientific publishing, to implement the publication process quickly, and to achieve optimal dissemination of works.
No, registration itself does not incur any costs. Members are only required to comply with the terms of use.
Yes, at Shaker, we value the protection of personal data. We use your personal information for the purpose of technical administration of the website "shaker.de" or "shaker.eu" and to fulfill your orders or inquiries. Use for other purposes will only occur with your prior consent or due to legal obligations or permission. Your data will only be shared with other companies or service providers if this is necessary to fulfill your inquiries or orders.
The contract can be concluded either during the preparation or creation of the manuscript or at the latest in connection with the publication registration and the upload of the print file.
Yes, authors and editors can publish parts of the work in specialist journals, anthologies, etc.
No, you can also transfer only the rights for the current language of the book to us and freely dispose of the rights for other languages.
For dissertation publication, we produce a minimum print run of 150 copies for bookstores, regardless of the number of author copies ordered.
Current sales and revenue figures are provided annually in the account. The fee is transferred annually.
Please send us your manuscript as a PDF file. This format ensures optimal print results and eliminates formatting errors. The PDF file is also suitable for online publication.
When creating the PDF file, all fonts should always be embedded. Most PDF creation programs have a corresponding option in the properties. To check, you can open your PDF file on a second computer that does not necessarily have all the fonts installed. If the document is also displayed correctly, there should be no problems with the fonts or formatting.
The free Adobe Reader is available at www.adobe.de and can be used to check the PDF file, especially the page formatting.
When scanning color or grayscale images, you should select a resolution of at least 300 dpi (optimally 600 dpi). Pure black and white images, i.e., line graphics, should be scanned at 1,200 dpi. The image files used should not be enlarged afterwards, as this will significantly impair the print quality.
As soon as you can estimate when your manuscript can be submitted, you can give an order for publication. To do this, transmit the bibliographical information about the book in your account and upload the pressure maturity PDF file. In this context, you can choose a standard envelope, send your own design or commission an individual book cover. As part of our subsequent processing, the ISBN registration and the preparation of the trial print of the book will take place, which will then be sent to you. As soon as you have checked the trial print, you can release the book for publication. From this point on, the book can be ordered from us and a few weeks later also from internet book dealers and bookstores.
Yes, we understand that most manuscripts require further spelling corrections or design changes during this phase. Therefore, the first proof is free of charge. However, any subsequent replacement of the print file or corrections to the book cover will incur a fee.
Yes, books can also be printed in other formats. Unless your requests result in significantly higher production costs, we will endeavor to treat your special format in the same way as the comparable standard format.
Yes, because the individuality of your publication is important to us. Please let us know your ideas.
Softcover, hardcover, booklet (stitched brochure), and wire-O binding (spiral binding) are available.
Of course, the manuscript can contain any number of color pages or even be in color throughout.
Yes, folding panels with illustrations or other representations are bound into the book block and can then be unfolded or opened and closed by the reader.
Yes, the CD-ROM/DVD is placed in a paper sleeve, which is glued to the inside back cover. This firmly attaches the CD-ROM or DVD to the book.
Color images (e.g., photos and drawings) should have a resolution of at least 300 dpi (preferably 600 dpi) and should preferably be saved as a TIFF or JPG file.
Grayscale images should have a resolution of at least 350 dpi and should preferably be saved as a TIFF file.
Line drawings in bitmap format (bmp) (images that consist of black lines or areas and do not contain any grayscale) require a resolution of at least 600 dpi, preferably 1200 dpi. It is preferable to create vector graphics in a vector/drawing program rather than an image/pixel program. PS or EPS file formats are also possible, as is a print-ready PDF file.
Please do not set color separation when using professional layout programs such as InDesign.
Please send the files as print-ready PDF files with a 3mm bleed all around and embed all fonts. Alternatively, after consulting our graphics department, you can also send open files created in a professional graphics or layout program (such as InDesign).
A CD has a maximum storage capacity of 700 MB. If your publication has a larger data volume, you can use a DVD, which has a maximum storage capacity of 4.5 GB.
We will duplicate and label your master CD/DVD. A label draft will be sent to you for print approval beforehand.
If your CD/DVD is a supplement to a book publication, it will be provided with a paper sleeve, which is usually glued to the back of the book. For CD/DVD-only releases, so-called QuickFlips are available. With these two options, you can design the label together with our graphics department. Another option is a CD/DVD publication in a jewel case. In addition to the label, the inlay (back of the CD case) and a booklet can be designed.
For a CD/DVD-only release, we can assign an ISBN to your publication upon request – similar to a book release. CD-ROMs/DVDs included with a book have the book's ISBN on the label and cannot be ordered separately.
Online publications are distributed as downloads through our online bookshop. Before a reader can download the file, an electronic payment method (PayPal) must be activated. This ensures that the sold copies are actually paid for.
For online publications, the file should be in PDF format.
The fee for online publications is 25 % of the net selling price. The net selling price corresponds to the selling price less sales tax and less the transaction fees of the online payment services (PayPal).
When creating your file, the page margins should be at least 2.0 cm (for DIN A4), depending on the format size. This information applies to a total page count of up to approximately 200 pages. Please allow for larger page margins as the page count increases. The "Gutter" option should not be activated. When setting up headers and footers, we recommend a margin of 1.5 cm from the page margin.
We recommend a 13 pt font with 1.3x line spacing for the text and a 12 pt font for annotations, citations, footnotes, etc. These specifications apply to the text at a size of DIN A4 = 100 %. However, at least a 12pt font with 1.5 line spacing must be used for the text and a 10pt font for footnotes. The font height in tables and figures should not be less than 6pt (approx. 2mm).
The author can generally determine the font type themselves. For longer texts, serif fonts such as Times or Palatino are best. For texts with figures or formulas, sans-serif fonts such as Arial or Verdana can also be used.
New sections of the work (foreword, acknowledgements, table of contents, introduction, appendix, index, etc.) must begin on a right-hand (odd-numbered) page. Please note that according to most university guidelines, the first page of the book, or the first page and back cover, for dissertations and habilitations must contain the required information (examination date, examiner, etc.). This is followed by the inside page prepared by the publisher and the imprint. As a rule, the mandatory copies must include a CV at the end.
Page numbers must always alternate between the right (odd numbers) and left (even numbers) of the page so that they are always on the outside when printed double-sided. Alternatively, you can, of course, also place them in the middle of the page.
We recommend not numbering the title page and the introduction, and using Roman numerals for the table of contents and, if applicable, a list of figures up to the beginning of the main text. Arabic numbering then begins on the first page of the main text.
When scanning color or grayscale images, you should select a resolution of at least 300 dpi (optimally 600 dpi). Pure black and white images, i.e., line graphics, should be scanned at 1,200 dpi. The image files used should not be enlarged afterwards, as this will significantly impair print quality.
You should avoid fine lines under 0.3 mm (0.9 pt), as these can break away during printing.
You can quickly and easily search for specific titles in our shop. To do so, enter a search term in the search field and click "Search."
You can further refine your search results by specifying the author, title, keywords, ISBN, or a specific series, or you can view our new releases.
