A Textile Fabric Protruding Fibers Measurement System Based on Camera Vision and Variable Homography
Fabric’s smoothness is a key factor to determine the quality of finished textile products, and it has great influence on the functionality of industrial textiles and high-end textile products. Fabric inspection has proven to be one of the most difficult of all textiles processes to achieve automatism. Automatic inspections systems are designed to increase the accuracy, consistency and speed of the detection of defects in the manufacturing process of fabrics, in order to reduce labor costs, improve product quality and increase manufacturing efficiency. The quantification of textile defects, especially 3-D defects, is usually done off-line, often in a laboratory environment. At present, no 3-D defects online system exists, which is able to detect, measure and classify the various defects encountered during fabric manufacturing, especially if low-cost is required. The topic of this work is defined as “using variable homography to measure protruding fibers on glass fiber fabric”, which aims at developing a camera-based prototype, in order to be, in the future, adapted for online fabric 3-D monitoring and measurement.
