Computational modelling of inhomogeneous growth in biomechanics
The objective of this work is the development and implementation of volume growth phenomena in living bodies. Growth in living bodies is in general linked to the development of material. Thus, this development can be given as an increase of mass or volume in the body and sometimes it is linked to changes in the material behaviour of the body. More specifically, the growth phenomena analysed in this work include the change in growth behaviour in an inhomogeneous way although the material properties are homogeneous. The inhomogeneous growth will be given in this case by changing the growth rate and the growth direction due to the existence of a high hydrostatic pressure or stress.
