Der Band fasst die Beiträge des jährlichen Workshops der Fachgruppe „Simulation in den Umwelt- und Geowissenschaften“ zusammen, der vom 2. bis 3. März an der Universität Bayreuth stattfand. Inhaltliche Schwerpunkte waren dabei die mathematische Modellierung von übertragbaren Krankheiten als Arbeitsgebiet der Bayreuther Gruppe, andererseits Modelle und Ansätze, die den Raumbezug von Modellen mit den Mitteln eines Geoinformationssystems zur Problemlösung einbeziehen. Dazu kommt ein dritter Themenbereich, der das breite Spektrum derr Anwendungen von Modellierung und Systemsimulation im Umweltbereich aus den unterschiedlichsten Anwendungsdomänen zusammenfasst.
