Understanding the role of Cr and Ag addition on the Microstructure, Hydrogen Permeability and Environmentally Assisted Cracking behavior of an Al-Zn-Mg-Cu-Zr 7xxx Alloy
This dissertation focuses on the microstructure-related mechanistic understanding of the phenomenon of hydrogen environmentally-assisted cracking (HEAC) of a high-strength Al-Zn-Mg-Cu-Zr 7xxx alloy. As a potential HEAC mitigation strategy, the impact of alloy chemistry modification with Cr and Ag on the microstructure, grain boundary microchemistry, hydrogen permeation and environmentally assisted cracking mechanism were explored.
