Vorliegender Band beinhaltet Aufsätze, die als Referate im Rahmen von Jahrestagungen des Nationalkomitees Deutschland im International Council for Traditional Music (UNESCO / NGO) in den Jahren 2010-2013 gehalten wurden. Es handelt sich dabei um folgende Tagungen: 2010 am Institut für Musikwissenschaft der Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg, Thema: Musik-Transfer; 2011 am Center for World Music in Hildesheim, Thema: Musikinstrumente - Seele und Vermächtnis; 2012 am Institut für Musikforschung der Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg, Thema: Musik und Transkulturalität und 2013 am Institut für Europäische Musikethnologie der Universität zu Köln, Thema: Traditionelle Musik europäischer Regionen im globalen Kontext. Dementsprechend breit gefächert sind die Themen der Aufsätze, die sich u.a. musikalischen Phänomenen in Argentinien, Brasilien, Deutschland, Griechenland, Guyana, Italien, Mali, Mexiko, Trinidad, der Türkei und Venezuela widmen.
