Abstract: | This Thesis deals with a control for hot rolling mills, that was designed in the framework of the project "Modelling of the Sheet Run and Control for Hot Roll Mills" performed in the collaboration with Primetals Technologies Germany GmbH and Linz Center of Mechatronics GmbH. A curvature reduction control is designed for a roughing mill and an infeed control is designed for a finishing mill. The infeed control is realized by means of a model predictive control and the curvature reduction control by means of a feedforward control. To design the curvature reduction control and infeed control, a model describing an evolution of a steel plate/strip curvature is derived. To derive an appropriate model, basic concepts of differential geometry are used. The derived model and controllers are verified by a finite element model coupled with a roll gap model. The finite element model is integrated in Hotint and the roll gap model is implemented as a dynamic link library. The implemented finite element model was developed by Linz Center of Mechatronics GmbH} and Institute of Technical Mechanics, JKU, the roll gap model was provided by Primetals Technologies Germany GmbH. Hotint is a C++ freeware and partially open-source environment for the simulation of multibody dynamic systems and flexible structures, which was initiated in 1997 by J. Gerstmayr and further developed by Institute of Technical Mechanics, JKU, Linz Center of Mechatronics GmbH and Austrian Center of Competence in Mechatronics GmbH. Model predictive controller for the infeed process control was also successfully tested at the plant by Primetals Technologies Germany GmbH. |
