Abstract: | For a number of years much effort has been devoted worldwide to improving the function and resource efficiency of systems and processes. One approach is to automatically monitor the process state and use the information gained to better control the process. The present work falls into this category, too. It is concerned with the non-destructive in-situ monitoring of the state of exhaust catalysts. The author explores how a laboratory-proven microwave-based method can possibly be transferred to field devices. Corresponding hardware and software concepts have been implemented in two demonstrators. The thesis describes the achievable system characteristics and in particular takes into account practically relevant influence effects such as fast changing process states and high losses. This should be of interest to anyone looking into field applications of the microwave-based NDE (non-destructive evaluation) of electrochemical systems. |
